Conexiones Latinas de McLean County (formerly Hispanic Families Work Group) is a non-profit organization consisting of volunteers who share a passion for improving and creating opportunities for Latino families in Bloomington-Normal and McLean County, Illinois. Conexiones Latinas is open to the public and members include representatives from local businesses, non-profits, churches, and educational institutions.
We focus on creating community through intercultural collaboration and we have been connecting and bringing together Latinos in Central Illinois since 2004. We are your place to find out what is going on in the Latino community in Bloomington-Normal and McLean County.
Our primary focus has always been on communications, by which we help bring together, inform, and celebrate the Latino community. We have many ways for Latinos in Bloomington-Normal to stay connected and continue to support our local community. Hispanic and Latino Community Study: Needs and Assets
In April 2009, the Hispanic Families Work Group (now Conexiones Latinas de McLean County) published a community study which completed a two-year comprehensive analysis of the HIspanic and Latino community in Bloomington-Normal, McLean County, Illinois. In addition to demographic and socioeconomic data, this study addresses the issue of better knowing and understanding the Hispanic community through the top 11 issues facing our community and outline our guiding areas of focus.
Radio Latina 88.1FM
Launched in the summer of 2008, Radio Latina was heard 7 days a week on 88.1FM WESN weekdays 12:30-1:30 and weekends in the morning. This was Bloomington-Normal's only Latin music radio program and accepted music requests from the community.
Dilo en Espanol
Launched in 2009, this award winning Spanish radio program aired on Sunday nights on WJBC (1230AM and 93.7FM) for almost two years with host Ingrid Ramirez providing in-depth interviews of our local Latino and community leaders.
