When a Permanent Legal Resident files for citizenship, the filing fee is $680.00. Our services to screen you, fill out the application, and follow you through the whole process, with attorney supervision, is always free of charge.
IF YOU CAN SHOW ECONOMIC ELIGIBILITY, YOU MAY FILE FOR FREE – without paying the $680.00!
We would like to see how many in the Central Illinois area could apply for citizenship with this fee waiver, and so we are holding our second informational meeting this Saturday, June 18th, at 2:00 in our home office in Bloomington.
There is no need to bring anything, or to register. Just walk in!

The Immigration Project is opening an opportunity to volunteer on “The Citizenship Team”. It is a commitment of 8 hours per month, preferably on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. We need a team of about six people. Fluency in Spanish or French is a plus but not a must!
This is a fantastic opportunity to help Legal Permanent Residents on the road to citizenship!
We are having an informational meeting on Saturday, June 18th, from 11:30am – 12:30pm. Please contact me to register so we know how many to expect.
If, at the end of this meeting you remain interested, we are offering initial training training from 12:30 till 3:00 p.m.
We respectfully request that you only attend if you are sincere about committing to volunteer 8 hours or more each month for at least six months. Also, no current clients of Immigration Project may volunteer until their case is completed.

Citizenship, immigration, Immigration Law
Alabama illegal immigration law tougher than Arizona’s
“Alabama schools will soon have to check if students are in the country legally and people stopped for any reason could be arrested on suspicion of immigration violations under a sweeping law being called the nation’s most restrictive against illegal immigration.
“Advocacy groups promised to challenge the sweeping measure signed by Gov. Robert Bentley on Thursday, which they call even more severe than the one in Arizona that is being challenged in court.
“In addition, it requires all businesses to check the legal status of workers using a federal system called E-Verify and makes it a crime to knowingly give an illegal immigrant a ride.”
This law is set to take effect Sept. 1st.

The Immigration Project is now requiring that any person with a ‘green card’ who wants to apply for citizenship with their help must first attend one of their Citizenship Information Meetings. This is a required step before an individual appointment to fill out the application for citizenship will be given.
The meetings are free, open to the public and, where needed, will be conducted both in English and Spanish. Anybody may come to find out about the process and no appointment is necessary to attend. As part of the meeting, checklist packets will be distributed to those ready to apply for citizenship. Time for general questions will be given.
The next meeting in Bloomington will Saturday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m. at the offices of the Immigration Project (510 E Washington St., Ste 318, 3rd flr, east end). Citizenship_Workshop_flier-Bloomington 12 4 2010-pdf

For only a limited time, you may be eligible for 80% of the Naturalization (or Citizenship Application) fees paid for by the Citizenship Dream Fund, which means instead of $675 you will only pay $145.
If you or a friend will be eligible to apply for citizenship by September 30, 2010, and if you have a minor child living in the home, or are between 18 and 21 and live at home, AND your income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may be eligible for a 30-day program that will allow you to apply for Naturalization at a greatly reduced amount. The Dream Fund provides for 80% of the to USCIS if you are eligible. (So, instead of having to pay a $675.00 filing fee, you pay a $145.00 filing fee.) In order to determine whether you are eligible for this spectacular discount, you need to call the Immigration Project for an appointment and have ready the following documents:
- Proof of Household income for the last 30 days, including unemployment benefits and including the income for each person in the household.
- Proof of who lives in the household, particularly including minor children.
- A copy of your TANF card or EBT/Foodstamps card.
- A copy of your 2009 Federal Income Tax Report.
- Money order for $145 payable to “The Immigration Project”.
This offer has not yet been announced but when it is it will only be available for about 30 days. Please call them as soon as possible to ask for a consultation in one of the regional clinics nearest to you. If you have any questions, please call (309) 829-8703, ext. 104 or email jbillington@immigrationproject.org.
