Please join us Tuesday, February 8th at 5:30 p.m. at Western Avenue Community Center (600 N. Western Ave, Bloomington, IL) for our monthly Hispanic Families Work Group meeting.
We will introduce the new Executive Board, explain the role and responsibilities of committees, discuss any upcoming events, and hear about Leadership McLean County and the Donde Esta directory.

The end of 2010 was a time of transition for the Hispanic Families Work Group (HFWG) as we looked for a new Executive Board to help us redefine the group and what we would focus on in the years to come. On behalf of the Board and the Nominating Committee I am very happy to announce and introduce the new HFWG Executive Board for 2011-2012 (HFWG Board Biographies):
The new board has a lot of new ideas so please keep connected and involved – they are an amazing and energetic group of community leaders. HFWG will continue to do the things we do well in networking, collaborating and communicating together, but we will need your help as we start focusing on issues important to our Hispanic community: education and economic development.
I would also like to thank the outgoing HFWG Executive Board: Deborah Halperin (Vice-chair), Maureen Sollars (Secretary), Laura Grant (Treasurer), and Karen Major (Ex-Officio) for all their hard work and leadership over the past couple of years. In addition to devoting hundreds of hours to this organization, they have been instrumental in the many successes we have had since 2008:
All the outgoing board officers have expressed their commitment to the organization and you will see many of them on our new committees and in leadership roles. Lastly, thank you to the Nominating Committee: David Im, Dick Folse, and Maureen Sollars for their hard work these past few months. For everyone else, please continue to follow us on our website and on facebook and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting in February at Western Ave Community Center (Bloomington, IL).

For all you who couldn’t attend our HFWG meeting last Tuesday (11/16) here is a survey version of our discussion from last week. Your participation in the planning process is important to the future of the HFWG so please complete this short survey by November 30, 2010:

This short survey should take less than 10 minutes of your time and your answers will be confidential. At the end of next week we will send out the collected responses from the survey and the meeting in preparation for our December meeting which will be held at Western Ave Community Center (600 N. The November HFWG Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 5:30-6:30pm and will be held at Western Ave Community Center, 600 N. Western Avenue, Bloomington, IL 61701.
This meeting is a follow-up to the October meeting held on 10/20 – we will review the ideas and projects suggested and review nominations for the board.

Thank you for all your help in scheduling the next HFWG meeting. The meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the McLean County Health Department (200 W Front St, Bloomington, IL 61701) on the 3rd Floor in Room 322.
We will be discussing the future of the HFWG and we really need your input as a community leader and member - even if you have never attended a meeting or it’s been a long time since you last attended one. This is your opportunity to voice your opinions concerning the Hispanic and Latino community and help decide the direction of this organization for years to come. We would like to have as many people attend this meeting as possible so please invite or bring anyone you think should attend this meeting.
The HFWG Monthly Meeting scheduled for this Friday (10/1) has been cancelled in order to accommodate more schedules.
We would like to reschedule the October meeting (to be held at the McLean County Health Department) to discuss the future of the HFWG.
