Cinema Latino – Friday, March 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the Peoria Public Libary – Main Branch. “Motorcycle Diaries” (Diarios de Motocicleta). 2004. Rated R. Starring Gael García Bernal. The movie is about a motorcycle road trip Che Guevara went on in his youth that showed him his life’s calling. Movie will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. Entrance is free! Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria is looking for a volunteer, bilingual tutor. They tutor students while they are in the hospital. One of the patients they are working with is Hispanic. Their schoolwork is all in English and is struggling to understand the work. She is a senior and is taking two classes. Can one of us help this student in need?

Our guest speaker this month will be Melissa Eaton of the Tri County Regional Planning Commission. She will be working on a Peoria-area planning project and would like to include the Latino community’s input.
Salsa Dancing will resume on January 20th from 8:30PM till 12:30AM at the Contemporary Art Center.
Beginners & intermediate Salsa classes start on January 25th for the Peoria Park District. You must call them to register. Wednesday evenings.

Come brush up on your Spanish, or help someone else improve theirs, by joining Peoria Hispanics at their weekly Charlas en Español (a.k.a. Spanish Conversation Hour) cohosted by the Peoria Public Library. People at all levels are encouraged to come and practice Spanish. We will have light refreshments and will be showing guests how to use the Library’s Language Learning Program called MANGO.
